Alyssum lepidotum Boiss.

Scaled alyssum (Endemic to Turkey)

The distribution area of Alyssum lepidotum is quite scattered. The lepidote hair structure of the species was effective in its scientific naming as well as its local name (lepidote: scaled). It starts flowering with the arrival of the summer season. Steppes and calcareous scree slopes at altitudes ranging between 1000-2300 m are home to this species. They are perennial plants, the stems of which can reach heights of 7 cm and form clusters. The leaves on the sterile shoots have an imbricate arrangement, narrow elliptic forms and acute tips. Whereas the stem leaves are linear-lanceolate in form; the petals are broadly sphatulate in shape from retuse to bilobed at the apex. The fruits have an ovate shape and are covered with grey coloured lepidote hairs.
